Left on A&E Trolley for 33HRS – Just another shocker?

Nick McDermott reports in The Sun – A great-grandad with dementia and Parkinson’s was left on a hospital trolley for 33 hours before he eventually died.

The bungled treatment of ex-factory worker Graham Philips, 66, was one of 163 NHS mistakes highlighted in a damning report.

Mr Philips, who was taken to A&E with pneumonia, spent a further four days on the wrong ward because of bed shortages.

Doctors dumped him in an assessment unit for 42 hours after abandoning him on a trolley.

Wife Sheila was eventually forced to take him home in Stoke, where he died two weeks later.

She said of his time at University Hospital of North Staffordshire: “His treatment was shocking. I didn’t trust them enough to leave him.”

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman studied a snapshot of complaints last year at hospitals, GP surgeries and care homes.

Basic errors led to delayed cancer care and needless deaths. In one case a patient was forced into private care on Christmas Day because a hospital discharged him.

The Ombudsman said: “These cases show the impact service failure can have.”

“It gets evermore sickening – The perpetrators of these crimes including the Government are not answerable to anybody but themselves and will continue to kill people!. Don’t expect the system to look after your loved ones”

The University Hospital of North Staffordshire is also calling itself the Royal Stoke Hospital Trust to try and place itself aside from the Stafford General debacle – hypocrites”
