IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder of unknown cause. IBS symptoms are characterised most commonly by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating and intermittent diarrhoea often alternating with constipation. Sufferers of IBS can experience abdominal distention, the sensation of incomplete evacuation and the passage of mucus.
Although you can take medicines to directly stop pain and other IBS symptoms, it is worth trying to prevent the symptoms in the first place.
